Back-End Developer

At Chordify we're looking for a Back-End Developer (3 - 5 years experience) to join our team.

Full-time / Part-time · Utrecht / Groningen, the Netherlands

Our mission at Chordify is to make it as easy as possible for musicians of all skill levels to learn to play their favorite music. Our apps and website are powered by a distributed Haskell back end.

We are looking for a new proactive, independent and creative functional programmer to improve the Chordify back-end infrastructure, core technology, and launch new ideas to join our team of experienced developers in our offices in Utrecht or Groningen.

You

  • Are a Haskell programmer

  • Have 3 - 5 years of professional experience (not necessarily in Haskell)

  • Live in The Netherlands and have good English communication skills

  • Know SQL and relational databases

  • Have experience translating business requirements into technical needs

  • Like coming up with new ideas and sharing them

  • Enjoy technical challenges

We

  • Are a bunch of friendly, open, sometimes funny, always caring people, from a variety of cultural and professional backgrounds

  • Welcome everyone to join us

  • Are an autonomous workforce, with our own flavor of the Holacracy method

  • Use Agile principles (e.g. some teams use Scrum) in most of our day-to-day work

  • Have no managers, no micromanagement

  • Let you choose the roles that suit you best and tasks to work on

  • Help each other out

  • Love music!

Our work philosophy is simple: We believe in an autonomous workforce where everybody takes care of themselves and their work. We call it Chortonomy, where everyone does what they know best, and with all our skills combined we make Chordify. Please read our blog about the heart and soul of Chordify if you want to know more about what makes us tick.

You will

  • Design, develop, deploy and operate services that support millions of users

  • Implement and test the Chordify Haskell back end

  • Encounter other technologies and figure them out as you go. Examples (no experience needed!): Amazon AWS, Bash, HAProxy, MariaDB, Nagios, ProxySQL, Puppet, Python, Redis

  • Work together with frontenders and designers to implement new and exciting features

  • Help user researchers and marketers get the answers they need

  • Be part of a growing multidisciplinary team that continuously experiments, iterates on and delivers new product improvements

  • Work at least four days per week

You will be active in several teams, and will, for example, develop new features for our users, dig up data to help our user researchers with the burning questions that they have, and work on our in-house email framework.

You get

  • To work at either our Utrecht or Groningen office and, if you want, partially from home

  • A gross monthly salary of €3800 to €5000 (excluding 8% holiday allowance) depending on your skills and expertise

  • A pension scheme

  • Flexible working hours

  • A leased bicycle of your choice

  • Commuting expenses reimbursed

  • A daily free lunch, snacks, and drinks

  • A budget each year to spend on anything music related

  • To be part of an international team of music lovers

  • To enjoy Friday afternoon drinks, regular game evenings, and team outings

  • To make music during work

  • To trade public holidays for other days that are important to you

  • To focus on your mental health through OpenUp

  • To be yourself
