Senior iOS Developer
About the job
Our mission at Chordify is to make it as easy as possible for musicians of all skill levels to learn to play their favorite music.
As a Senior iOS Developer in our Labs team, you will help bring new educational and music technology ideas to life in our iOS app. You'll work on features that help musicians practice, play, and improve, while also contributing to the modernization of our iOS codebase.
This role is a great fit for someone with solid, senior iOS experience who wants to work close to product innovation and audio technology. You'll get the freedom to come up with your own solutions, and you'll be the go-to expert on the iOS side of things.
The Labs team works on new ways to help musicians move forward in their favorite songs. This can mean working on streaming integrations, exploring new audio technology, making lyrics or tuning features more useful, or find new ways of to make musical content available and understandable. Not everything is clear-cut from the start, so your input will be needed to find the right balance between vision, design, and implementation.
Want to have a look at the current app yourself? You can find it here on the App Store.
You'll thrive here if you:
Have 5+ years of experience developing iOS apps
Have strong Swift skills
Are proficient in SwiftUI and UIKit
Have experience with automated testing (unit, integration, and UI)
Have experience with modern architecture patterns (such as The Composable Architecture) and modularization
Have worked on an existing app or larger codebase before
Are often the person others turn to with tricky technical questions, and enjoy helping teammates grow
Take ownership of your work and have the intrinsic drive to get things released
Communicate clearly, ask questions, and reach out when you need help
Are open to picking up new technical skills, including some curiosity about AI tooling
Enjoy thinking along from a product perspective, not only from a technical perspective
Are comfortable working in a team where priorities can shift, and where you sometimes need to help decide what to pick up, postpone, or say no to
Are located in the Netherlands
Nice-to-haves:
Interest in Rust / FFI, for contributions to our in-house audio-stack
Experience with audio-related development, music technology, streaming integrations, or implementing complex UX/UI features
Experience in a smaller company, scale-up, or product environment where ownership and flexibility were important
Why join us?
Are a bunch of friendly, open, always caring people, from a variety of cultural and professional backgrounds
Use Agile principles in most of our day-to-day work
Want everybody to be able to have real impact without micromanagement
Love music!
How we work
We trust you to use your expertise, make decisions, and take ownership of your work. In return, we expect you to take your accountabilities seriously. Yourself included.
Collaborate with your colleagues, and hold each other accountable for what we have agreed to achieve.
None of this works without direction. We set clear goals, near and far, so everyone's work points the same way. You always know what's your responsibility, what belongs to someone else, and how your work contributes to Chordify's success. We want the world to live its music!
You will
Build and improve iOS features for musicians all over the world
Use Agile principles, but we don't work in a traditional Scrum setup. This means you'll have room to think along, take ownership, and help shape priorities together with the team.
Work on Labs projects that explore new music technology ideas and maintain existing features
Help implement features such as new streaming service integrations and improvements to our practice tools
Collaborate closely with UI/UX Design, backend developers, and other iOS developers
Give input from an iOS development perspective during product planning, and be a technical point of contact for the team
Help reduce technical debt and move the iOS codebase forward in our architectural roadmap
Help modernize the iOS codebase and make technical improvements that speed up future development
Learn how our iOS architecture works and contribute to its future direction
In your first months, we'll help you get familiar with our way of working, our product, and how Chordify is organized. You'll start with a well-scoped development project, so you can learn by doing while getting to know the team, the codebase, and our iOS setup. This could be something like improving the current features that give our users feedback on their playing and how they are integrated across the app.
Over time, you'll grow into someone who can take ownership of iOS features within Labs, actively contribute ideas in team discussions, and help shape how new music-playing experiences are built in the app. After 12 months, success means you are fully integrated in the team: delivering implementations, improving existing features and giving input from an iOS perspective on future ideas within Labs. Concrete projects on the horizon include new streaming service integrations (such as Apple Music) and a new practice-mode feature on the song page, for example live feedback while playing. Besides the Labs team, you have established yourself as the iOS expert within the organization as a whole, are actively helping fellow iOS developers with technical challenges they face in their own product teams, create plans on how to tackle existing technical debt in the code base and are able to communicate the expected capacity needs accordingly.
There will be room to go deeper into iOS development, our audio technology, and product innovation. There's also room to grow into more of a team dynamics or leadership role. Either within Labs or within the iOS Guild, depending on where your ambitions lie.
You get

Our take on requirements
You don’t need to tick every box to apply. We care more about your curiosity, motivation, and willingness to learn than about a perfect match on paper.
If this role sounds exciting, and you feel you could grow into it, we’d love to hear from you. We especially encourage you to apply if you bring a different perspective, background, or path into tech.
